Did You Know the name of our place dates back to 1699?The name Pointe Coupée (Pwent koo-pay) started after March 1699 when on Iberville's first recorded exploration upriver they found a cut-point. "On March 18, 1699, we came to a place on the Mississippi River . . . where we found a cut-point . . . we carried our canoes . . ."
Today, the name is pronounced two ways: Pwent Koo-pay and Point Koo-pee. How do you say the name? Let us know!
