Waterways and Byways
Did You Know that there is a large project underway to restore False River?A significant project to restore False River in Pointe Coupée Parish will address the effect of the increased sedimentation in the lake, ways to improve the water quality and improve wildlife habitat. False River was long known as a trophy lake for bass fishing until recently. Large deposits of silt occur each year from drainage canals at the north and south ends of the lake. Increased residential development along the river's edge continues. Both of these are major contributors to the loss of riparian habitat along the river's edge and an overall decline in the ecosystem in the lake. Solutions include studies to determine how best to re-establish vegetation and to stabilize the channels to reduce erosion. Once the ecosystem is thriving again, Pointe Coupéeans can look forward to a long future of this natural and recreational beauty!
