POINTE COUPEE HISTORY: FEATURES
SUMMARY
Pointe Coupée Parish History is an online history website produced by Creole West Productions as an educational and public resource. Through this user-friendly website, teachers and students have access to a variety of resources that enhance their educational experience by capitalizing on their enthusiasm for computer and Internet technology.Multimedia and interactive features are built-in to encourage in-depth learning, exploration, discussion with experts, assistance from a teacher’s aide, and presentation of students’ unique creations. The website extends as a medium for sharing the resource with all schools in the parish, the community and for bringing Pointe Coupée history alive. Through participation with local, regional, national, and international experts, students will have the opportunity to exchange their history with other students throughout the nation and the world.
The website has numerous links to broaden the perspective of Pointe Coupée Parish history, yesterday and today, with a look into the future. At its core is an online historical narrative, e-History, with detailed footnotes, glossary and suggestions for further resources. The pages turn like the pages of a printed book, by using the mouse! The features are very simple to use. As the mouse rolls over glossary words with a dotted underline, a box appears with both a pronunciation and definition. When a footnote number appears in the text, simply place the mouse over the number, and a box with the detail of the footnote immediately appears.
The pages are easily navigable with links to related information, documents, audio recordings, and relevant Web sites. Within this text, you will hear voices of community members and Pointe Coupée descendants as they read passages, quoting historical characters in both English and French, and the Créole patois. A printed version of this text is accessible exclusively through a password to the teachers and students, where portions, or the entire text, are permitted to be printed and used for educational purposes.

ASSESSMENT
Portfolio assessment is recommended to evaluate the students’ overall learning success while using the Pointe Coupée Parish History website and other materials. It is suggested the students’ progress be determined through the individual portfolios they accumulate throughout the program. These portfolios will be a result of the completion of the projects, activities, quizzes, and the invaluable array of skills learned from interaction with one another, teachers, community members and experts as they utilize a new level of communication skills through the forum .
SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES
As a complement to the historical narrative, this guide offers suggested activities for each part.
